7/08 We stayed at Occidental Grand July 13-20. We took our 5 and 9 year old children with us and had a wonderful time.
Kids Club is awesome! Lots of activites for them and kept them busy. My 5 year old was begging to go each day. Try it out if you have children aged 4-12.
Food was good at the buffet. We did not try any of the specialty restuarants because my husband forgot to pack long pants. Lunch in the open buffet at the beach was always very good and a good place to cool off and get away from the sun.
Beach is very nice and lots of shade if you get up early enough to reserve a spot. (Before 8am or so)
Pools are nice and clean and not too crowded.
We took the 3 hour snorkel trip right from the resort and it was great for $41 per person. Stopped at 3 different areas and the crew is lots of fun!
We rented a jeep for the day and went over to the East side of the island. Waves are much bigger and lots of fun to ride. Very pretty just driving along the coastline.
We have been to Cozumel several time and this was by far the best resort we have stayed at on this island. We will be back for sure! Sue, NE

6/08 We spent a last minute four day trip at OGC in June . We got a real good deal thru our travel agent and when we got to the resort they were overbooked and gave us an upgrade to the Royal Club which made our trip a real bargain. The Royal Club was nice since we didn't have to pay for it but for the short time we were in our room it would not have been worth the money to pay extra for it. The air-conditioned check-in was nice but that was the only "perk" we got out of it.
The resort is beautiful and the grounds well kept. Our room was clean and beautiful. The refrigerator was well stocked with beer, soda and water. The best part of the resort is the staff. They were very eager to please whether in the Royal Club or at the beach. The Royal Club “pool” is an oversized whirlpool. And avoid the resort disco, a trip downtown will find all the popular bars you need. Good diving just several hundreds yards off the beach. We had trouble getting the resorts snorkel gear. The food was good for the price of the resort, there were some things that were real good and other things we didn't care for. The beach club had a good variety daily with the standard hamburger always there. We ate one meal at the Royal Club but were not impressed. Breakfast at the buffet was the best meal. The drinks were okay, but they do use premium liquor in stead of the cheap stuff.
We never had trouble finding a lounger and a palapa on the beach. They did occasionally take drink orders from your lounger. The beach is all sand, no rocks. The water can only be described as perfect.
For the price paid this is a good place to go for Cozumel. We like the Occidental at Xcaret better for about the same price, but if you can get the OGC at a good price you will enjoy yourself. I would not pay extra for the Royal Club it has a few amenities but not worth the additional charge. Its kind of like getting an outside window room on a cruise when you are only in the room for a short time at night. Mexico is no different than anywhere else, you get what you pay for. Tony, NC

6/08 This felt like a once in a lifetime vacation. We upgraded to the Royal Club and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The food was wonderful, rooms and environment beautiful, but it is their staff that makes the difference. What happy people! Just a pleasure to be around and such hard workers. The service was fantastic. Our rooms were spotlessand everyone was very friendly and always went the extra mile to make our vacation perfect. Each restaurant was very nice. The one at the Royal CLub was our favorite and where we ate the most. Breakfast was lovely, good coffee and a great selection on the menu. You have several choices for lunch and dinner every day. We had massages at the spa. Since we were there to relax, we didn't take much advantage of the shows or the disco but instead were on our balcony every night listening to the crickets or whatever it was. We definitely would go back....great vacation. Vicki, NM

3/08 - We spent 5 nights here for our honeymoon. The hotel grounds were beautiful and the rooms were very nice, comfortable, clean. Everything was well maintained and the employees were very friendly and helpful. Loved lunch down by the beach everyday and the pools are beautiful too. Being a young couple, we could have used a little more night life, but for families it is a nice quiet atmosphere. The buffets had a good variety & were open long hours. Our downside to the resort though was the difficulty & expense of going anywhere else. A cab ride to downtown was $15 one way, so we didn't leave the resort much and there is not much within walking distance.

11/07 My wife and I spent our week-long honeymoon at the Occidental Grand Cozumel and we had a great time. We spent most of our time lounging on the beach and by the pool. Our room was great. The drinks were great and the food (mostly buffet style) was good. There are a couple of on-property restaurants (separate from the buffet dining area), which are open on scheduled nights and those were decent (the steak restaurant was the best). The hotel staff was fantastic, except for the "concierges", who were annoying at various points because they were trying to lure customers into talking to the time-share salespeople. If you stay at the Grand Cozumel, just work with the rest of the hotel staff other than the concierges. You don't really need to do anything through them anyway. They have a specific person who handles car rentals and tours, and the front desk personnel can help with everything else. The beach and pools were great, but make sure you take bug repellent for the sand fleas. We had a number of bites, but this is apparently a common problem in most beach-front area on Cozumel and elsewhere in the Caribbean. There are a lot of free activities, too, such as wind surfing, Hobie Cat sailing, snorkeling, etc. You can also book other water-related tours with the beach activities people. We went on a three-hour snorkeling tour which was awesome. Overall, we would definitely go back to the Grand Cozumel. Bill-MO
