Gran Melia Cancun

Gran Melia Cancun Palace Resort Reviews

Stunning and spectacular, flowing structures in modern pyramidal design are topped with green-glass triangular domes, which in the darkness of night glimmer like a Mayan Oz- a fantasy from another planet so spellbinding is the architecture of this Resort!

Step into the center pyramid, in lavish marble with tropical vines cascading from the top of a 9 story atrium to the lobby level (2nd floor. The effect is amazing! A ceiling skylight filters sunlight over sunken Polynesian gardens on ground level, with ponds of gold fish, feathery palms and walkways to cedar decks with canvas umbrellas. It is an oasis perfect for a wedding.

Five adjoining pyramids are set in acres of sprawling lawns and manicured gardens, with an endless pool that flows horizontally with the Caribbean Sea and miles of white sand beach. One might say that wherever you are within the Resort, the turquoise of the Caribbean Sea is with you.

As one of the world's largest resort hotel chains, the Sol Melia is internationally known for customized personal service, magnificent hotel designs and ideal locations. The Gran Melia Cancun certainly fits the criteria, and is the chains largest to date, and certainly one of the most dazzling!

3/09 Just returned from a week at the Gran Melia Cancun and I must say it was incredible. The hotel is beautiful and had a wonderful international feel. The staff was friendly and accomodating. I thought the beach area was great, but as others have mentioned it was rocky. We swam and boogie boarded anyway but if you are not a strong swimmer or a good sport about a little "rock rash" you may want to stick with the pools which are completely amazing, you won't miss the beach! We booked an oceanview room which I highly recommend. The view was just too good for words. There is something about hearing the waves crash from your own private balcony. The room was beautiful. It was spacious, clean and had a modern feel. We ate breakfast at the buffet each morning. Food quality was good and the selection was great. We ate at Nami Sushi Lounge one night, we are sushi fans and unfortunetely Nami did not meet our standards, but the atmosphere could not be beat! This resort excels at creating an upscale and trendy, yet relaxing and laid back atmosphere. Yes, the lobby was warm and humid and the stairs out front could be a problem if you are out of shape. Neither of these issues were enough to spoil our trip but I have to say this hotel is not for everyone. It's probably a bit better suited for the under 50 crowd. I would absoluteley go back again and would recommend it to my friends. Jeannie, MA

3/09 We really enjoyed our stay at Gran Melia and Cancun beaches are awesome. The waves were great for the kids riding the boogie board and the sand was so soft and white. The Gran Melia beach was not crowded, we didn't have any problems finding beach chairs under thatched roof huts even during spring break. We really enjoyed several meals outside overlooking the ocean at the poolside cafe. We had a fun pina colada served in a pineapple at the swim up bar. The atrium was like a big jungle and to wake up each morning to the sounds of all their tropical birds was very soothing. After reading how expensive the taxi's were getting back and forth to the airport, we decided to rent a car. It wasn't much more expensive ($175 for the week) and we went downtown to Walmart and Costco to get all our drinks, snacks and a cooler. One day we drove to Xel Ha Ecological Water Park, we snorkeled, and floated down a river on inner tubes. It was a fantastic day and well worth the hour drive. Overall our trip to Cancun was so much fun and we were so pleased with the hotel too. It was very clean, the air conditioning was great and the 60 stairs were NO problem! Tom, SD

1/09 - My wife and I stayed in Royal Service for a week and were sad to leave. Upon check-in you are brought by a Royal Service member to Atrium 5 for a private check-in. Everything is taken care of, and drinks and snacks are complimentary most of the day. The grounds were beautiful, even when it rained. One of our favorite activities was lying in one of the resort's 35 balinese beds by the pool. Overall I felt that the value was very good. We received the royal treatment at a price far less than I would pay in the U.S.

The room itself was perfect. We stayed on the lagoon side which was not good, but it was quiet and had beautiful sunsets. We thought the scented pillow menu was a nice touch, and the services at the Yhi Spa were exactly what you want on vacation. The hotel was not that busy and we were not approached once about timeshares.

We actually enjoyed the food at the resort. Some of the lunch food could be expensive, but with free breakfasts and great value on dinners, we didn't mind traveling for lunch now and then. The Gran Melia hotel is a great place. The Royal Service makes it a wonderful place. Jeff, MA

1/09 This is a very nice hotel in a great location with great service. If you like to drink and eat, ask them about their all inclusive meal plan. The staff of the hotel has clearly been trained to provide excellent customer service. Remember, you are going to Mexico. Do not expect everything to work as well or as fast as it does in the US. I liked the hotel and felt that the property, service, food and drinks were top notch. The lobby is not air-conditioned, so it gets hot. The A/C in the rooms and the restaurants works fine. SG - PA
