Dreams Cancun
Dreams Cancun Resort ReviewsDreams dolphins

Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa is an Unlimited-Luxury resort combining traditional Mayan and contemporary Mexican architecture. Designed by renowned Mexican architect, Ricardo Legorreta, Dreams Cancun boasts open spaces and beautiful interior atriums, providing the enjoyment of warm tropical breezes and the calm, turquoise sea. Exclusively situated at the shore point known as Punta Cancun, Dreams Cancun is the only resort surrounded on three sides by the brilliant turquoise Caribbean; it's also the first resort in Mexico with a dolphinarium on site, and just steps from the shops, sights and nightlife of Cancun.

A variety of room and suite sizes meet any family's needs. All offer private balcony views of the ocean, beaches or lagoon. Each is luxuriously appointed with marble floors, elegant furnishings, sitting area, mini-bar, satellite TV and 24-hour room service. Several suites provide private whirlpools and other enhanced luxury amenities and services. Specialty dining, Himitsu Japanese on the beach with fire-lit torches, and the bar Sugar Reef. The Oceana under thatch roofing by the Caribbean offers fresh sea-fare, and the main buffet restaurant World Cafe gives samples of several countries' culinary delights. Paloma Bonita one of Cancun's most upscale and popular Restaurants is alive with mariachis and singing trios. (not included in all inclusive program, but guests receive 20% off). Azucar, the Resorts nightclub, is another popular landmark in Cancun with live shows and dancing and offers free admission and two complimentary drinks to guests of Dreams Resort.

Pampering is a plus at the Spa, lit in a pink zinfandel glow, with an array of treatments, sauna, steam-room and also an outdoor Spa garden with whirlpools, and massage tables.

8/08 I liked Dreams Cancun because it was not too large and it was easy to get around. It is located near the far end of the hotel zone so it's about a 20 to 25 minute ride from the airport.

The service was excellent and the majority of the staff was very friendly. The only exception was the pool and beach service deteriorated after noon due to all the food orders that get delivered.
The bar drinks are pretty typical of all-inclusive resorts. Some drinks are stronger than others, but none are too bad. I found Barracuda the best bar with the best service. The food overall is okay - nothing spectacular. World Cafe is the only choice for breakfast and I found the fruit and pastries to be the best choices. Most of the "hot plate" items are definitely not hot. The food at the Seaside Grill was OK, but the vegetables were luke warm at best. The lobster bisque and clam chowder at Oceana is very good as well as the ceasar salad.

The main attraction at Dreams Cancun is the dolphin pool. There were 5 dolphins swimming around when we were there. They do 3 swim with the dolphins sessions daily and I enjoyed watching the sessions every time. Everybody seems to stop by the dolphin pool for a close up view. Our room was a dolphin view room. The room was nice, but nothing spectacular. The room was definitely kept clean, as was the rest of the resort. Check in and check out are very quick.

Overall I would say this is a 3 star resort that I would consider staying here again next year. It wasn't spectacular but it was clean and quiet which are two things I look for. Kim, NJ

6/08 The property is beautiful! It looks bigger in pictures but you can walk the entire property in 10 minutes. We opted to upgrade to a room in the Tower. The views are spectacular from this building! There are only 6 rooms per floor so there's not much foot traffic in the hallway. The Tower is very quiet and secluded, almost separate from the rest of the property. There is continental breakfast at the lobby every morning and appetizers in the evening. If you are looking for a quiet getaway, then the Tower is for you. We had to go through the Pyramid to get to the Tower. It looks great because it has an open feel, but there was a lot of traffic here and I can only imagine that it'll be noisy in this building from the all people passing by. Also, there was a Mexican Fiesta at the Lagoon one night and I'm sure you would not find peace and quiet in the Pyramid rooms during events like this.
There are plenty of restaurant choices for everyone. The World Café is good especially if you have kids. They have different menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We liked having breakfast at World Café. Oceana is a seafood restaurant by the main beach. It has beautiful views and great lunch and dinner menu. Sea Side Grill is a casual place with the most Mexican food choices compared to the other places. We've only been at Sea Side for lunch because it's adults-only at night. Himitsu is pretty good, not the best but it's not horrible either. But Himitsu is the best place to watch the sunset! There is also the snack shop by the main pool and someone grills hamburgers and hotdogs by the main beach. They had a Mexican Fiesta Buffet by the Lagoon one night and that was great! They also had cultural shows that night. The 24-hour room service is a great perk. We ordered room service every night after my son falls asleep, even if it's just for a fruit plate or hamburger. This is our first time at an all-inclusive resort and it was great that we didn't have to pay for anything once we got there (except tips).
Great service! In a few short days the staff was already calling my son by name. Tip goes a long way. Bring a lot of ones. My husband had almost an entire bottle of red wine - the waiter kept refilling his glass! There are plenty of drinks to go around. The turndown service was great!
It rained the day we got there and the rest of the week was clear. Because it just rained, there was seaweed on both beaches the first 2 days we were there. But there's always someone cleaning the weeds out. A few days later and by the time we left, the beaches were clear and the seaweed was gone. The beach by the Tower is a little rough for my 1-year old, so we spent most of our time at the main beach. We had no problems finding chairs and palapas and there are plenty of towels. The water on the main beach was clear, warm and calm.
There's always something going on at the main pool. So if you are looking for something to do besides enjoy the beach, you'll find something to do. We spend time at the main beach and the small pool by the Tower so I can't say anything about the main pool with the swim up bar.
You can literally just walk out of the resort and there are bars and shopping within minutes. We didn't leave the resort the whole time we were there and we were perfectly happy.
This is definitely a family friendly resort but it is by no means overrun by kids. There were honeymooners, families with teenagers, families with small children, groups of women. Dreams is more of a sit-back-and-relax vacation and not a party all night resort. If you are looking to come here for a spring-break type of vacation, then you'll be in the wrong place.
MINOR COMPLAINTS: The Lagoon stinks! If your room is facing the Lagoon, it'll stink in your room too! Dreams staff were clearing out the algae from the Lagoon everyday to get rid of the awful smell. Another minor complaint that we have is that there wasn't enough Mexican food. And the music that they play in all the restaurants and outside by the main pool are all 80s songs. The elevators were broken a couple of times we had to take the stairs to the 4th floor. But it you are on 15th floor, it'll be hard to do.
We had a great vacation at Dreams Cancun. We won't hesitate to go back here or try another Dreams resort.

2/08 I have never experienced a friendlier, more welcoming or more accommodating staff in any hotel, anywhere, period. Again, the staff are all FABULOUS & really make you feel at home. The property is kept very clean -- landscape, pool, beach, rooms, common areas, restaurants, etc. We stayed on the second floor of the pyramid building overlooking the new dolphin enclosure. The room had cold A/C & very clean. WOW! is all I can say about the dolphins. Whenever we woke in the night we could step onto the balcony and watch them circle and swim. A little splash now & then, but no chatter that we heard. These are beautiful animals -- very relaxing & mesmerizing. Not the typical party scene here, that's down the block about a 10 minute walk. There's still plenty to do at the resort. There is a live show most every night: mexican fiesta, rock & roll, mayan show, caribbean show. Movies for the kids on a big screen by the pool. We only caught one show, but it was very good & watched it from our balcony. The bars were lively but not extremely loud, so there was good entertainment there as well. Also, ask for the "drink of the day" -- changes every day and REALLY good! And Miguel makes an excellent "cabana" at the pool swim-up bar. We don't have kids so N/A on Explorers Club; however, stretching class, spanish lesson, salsa dance, beach volleyball, water aerobics, etc are planned throughout every day. We stayed 3 nights & my fiance could be described as someone who enjoys eating and he was NOT disappointed. Room service is 24/7; even Coronas & club sandwich at 3 a.m. Pool is small, chairs are limited. I prefer to swim in the ocean -- it is fairly shallow and at times is warmer than the pool. Breezy beach on the tower side; sheltered somewhat on the main beach with a floating trampoline and inflated rock-climbing wall. Always plenty of clean towels and bar service right on the beach. There just isn't a bad view from this hotel. Sugar sand, beautiful beaches, gorgeous sunsets, and beautifully maintained landscaping. JP, PA

8/07 My friends and I had so much fun. The hotel was enormous and so beautiful. The food was fabulous, not to mention the drinks. And I personally was in love with that georgous white sand and crystal water. Such a beautiful mixture of blue and green. I was just shocked at how far out in the water I could walk, remain standing, and look down and see my toes wiggling. Going places was a easy, finding fun was a snap, and having a blast was cake. I tell all my friends who've never traveled, if you're just going for fun and play, make Cancun your first trip. It is the easiest fun you'll ever have. They've magically combined our American lifestyle with their beautiful culture and way life in such perfect proportion, you feel right at home. I love Cancun!  AM, IL
